China Yahoo Reconfirms Plans To Shut Blog Service September 27, 2009

Following the announcement of the closure of its social networking service Yahoo Guanxi a few days ago, China Yahoo has now announced on its official forum that it will shut its space service on October 30, 2009.

Launched on April 10, 2007, China Yahoo's space service includes blogs and photo albums for users. Once a popular product among Chinese users, China Yahoo's album sector stopped providing downloads of the original pictures after the latest system updates, which led to strong discontent from users.

According to the announcement, the service closure is due to operating strategy adjustments. The company recommends users to back up their blogs, albums, and other personal files. It also apologizes for bringing the inconvenience to users and expresses the company's gratitude for users' past support of the service.

Alibaba Group, China's B2B e-commerce giant and the parent company of China Yahoo, announced a decision at the end of August 2009 to dismantle Yahoo Koubei, the lifestyle information service, from China Yahoo; and on September 18, 2009, it announced plans to shut China Yahoo's SNS service Yahoo Guanxi on October 30, 2009.
