Google, the internet search giant, has launched a new application of Profiles search. It allows you to present yourself on Google and others to easily find this profile. You can include, for instance, your nickname, occupation, geographical location, photos, brief introduction and links to your blog, online photos, and other profiles like Facebook and LinkedIn, etc. All the data will be integrated into the contents made by you, such as the individually created Google Maps and the Shared Bookmarks. But of course, users have control over what others could see. Your profile will not show any private data unless you have added some privacy and then made it publicly known.

Google Profiles has integrated all the personal information you have created in other Google products. Before the existence of Google Profiles, you might have created your profile on Blogger, Orkut, Google Groups, Google Co-op or something else, or you might have added photos to Gmail, Google Talk or Orkut, all that resulting in a disorder of your personal data. Now, you have the new Google Profiles; it could also be used in other Google products. No need add your personal information to each Google product. One Google Profile will make it.

The coming out of Google Profiles has expressed its strong will of expansion. The web page is much like that of Facebook, not a coincidence of course. By allowing users to have a little control over the search results, Google is expecting to command the social networking, and to catch up with some popular websites like Facebook and Myspace. If you are using Gmail to receive or send emails, Google Maps for locations, or Picasa to share photos, it’s most likely that the time you spend on Google Profiles will be more than that spent on Facebook or Myspace. Like Facebook, Google Profiles will not reveal any private information unless you have explicitly added it. You could share information with friends or family members, with control over what they could see. Now the function of adding buddies is not available on Google Profiles, but “Send a Message” is a function that allows others to contact you through Gmail without revealing your email address. Another function, My Places, could show all the cities you have added to Google Profiles and the city of your stay now in Google Maps.

The more detailed the information of your profile is, the closer to the top of the list your name ranks while your name or related key words is being searched on Google. Google Profiles might be more meaningful to those job-hunters or employers. If your profile is detailed enough, companies could easily screen their targeted employees despite the fact that there isn’t any attached advertisement in the profile. Google Profiles is believed to play a more powerful role in our internet life, so let’s hope that Google Profiles will bring us more personalized experiences.
