Have you ever had the feeling of loneliness or idleness? Or have you gotten tired of searching for strangers from every part of the country by using such messaging software as QQ and MSN? A brand-new mode of messaging website – Omegle, which is specially designed for you to chat with strangers - went live several days ago. Note this diction – “Specially”, as you might never have the chance to have another chat with the same person you have chatted with after offline.
Omegle, completed by a high-school student aged 18 who is going to enter the university soon, went live on March 25. And on the right same day, there were 100 persons on line. This figure leap to 1800 five days later, and is now continuously increasing.

The operation procedure is quite easy, with only two pages: one is the first page you see when logging on to this website, and you will find a very striking blue button, “Start a Chat”. A Click on this button will access you to the next page, i.e. “Page of Chatting”.

When entering into the page of chatting, you will be automatically linked to the server, connected to a random stranger, and then you could start a chat with him now. The chatting window is quite simple, with the message displaying box on the upper side, the button to disconnect in the lower part, the space to type in messages in the middle and the button to send on the right. If you are disconnected either because of the server’s breakdown or because of your click on the button of Disconnect, the message box will display a button of “Start a new conversation”, and you will therefore be distributed to another random stranger by the server.

In the conventional market of instant messaging dominated by MSN, QQ and the even earlier ICQ, this type of chatting modes like Omegle is awash with freshness. You would say that it’s very easy to program such a tool once you see it. But Omegle is the first man brave enough to eat crabs.
But Omegle doesn’t have the function of adding buddies, as the creator expresses in his blog, the main problem is the re-visit rate. Anyway, people still tend to use this function of QQ or MSN, in order to keep in touch with each other later on. Even if you meet someone of a kindred spirit while chatting in Omegle, you two will exchange the contacts, which most likely will be MSN account number. Plus that people are not energetic all the time, they will log on Omegle only when in a state of intense loneliness or when they just want to experience something speicial. It’s impossible that they stay online for quite some time, because work, study and family are of more importance than that. This certainly will lead to great losses of users.
If you are really loving life and daily communication, Omegle is never suitable for you. What you have to care about is families, friendship and love. But if for some reason and for some time you are feeling lonely, Omegle could then be of some help to kill time.
